Ballmer: Tablets with Windows 7 come in droves by year's end

First, Microsoft hopes and dreams for the tablets were based on HP Slate . But he died . At least there were rumors in the tablet Courier ! Then, well ... But according to the leader of Microsoft Steve Ballmer, is to hit the market several tablets with Windows 7.

Ballmer's statement came today at the opening of the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference. Unsurprisingly tablets are coming with Windows 7 - Microsoft would be crazy not to try to use it in tablets, and we already know the Asus Eee Pad - but the timing and scope are surprisingly modest. Apart from Asus, Ballmer mentioned the Dell, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba as partners tablets with Windows 7, with products on the shelves "in the coming months."

Ballmer did not mention either the ipad nor the tablets with Android or the future Chrome OS , although it is clear that Microsoft thinks will be able to dominate the tablets , as they dominated the market for netbooks. It seems the keynote address at Microsoft is that they are easier to manage by IT departments, but tablets are meant more for consuming content - instead of creating and productivity - so we'll see whether this is actually an advantage for Microsoft.

In any case, it is a good chance of seeing even today, prototype tablet with Windows 7 at its Worldwide Partner Conference. They should give us an idea of how, exactly, Microsoft sees the future of tablets. [ ZDNet ]
